HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has issued a stern warning against the practice of celebratory gunfire during the holiday season. Sheriff Al Nienhuis emphasized the dangers associated with firing bullets into the air, citing past incidents where falling bullets have caused serious injuries and fatalities.

The Sheriff’s Office has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal gun use and gun-related crimes during the holidays. The public is urged to avoid celebratory gunfire and to report any gunfire or suspicious activities to the local authorities or the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office at 352-754-6830. In emergencies, residents should dial 9-1-1.

Sheriff Nienhuis stated, “Celebrating the New Year should never jeopardize someone else’s safety. Impaired driving and celebratory gunfire can have tragic consequences, potentially leading to the loss of innocent lives. Firearms should be kept secured and driving while impaired should be avoided at all costs.” The Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to ensuring a safe and happy holiday season for all community members.
