RALEIGH, NC – Amir Devon Hines, 24, has been arrested and charged with the murder and felony intentional child abuse of his 5-year-old autistic son, Karter Holloway. The Raleigh Police Department responded to a serious assault report at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Hospital around 10:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Upon arrival, officers were informed by hospital staff that Holloway had sustained injuries consistent with a severe assault. The boy was admitted to the intensive care unit in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on January 1.

Investigations led to the determination that Hines, the child’s father, was responsible for the injuries. Hines, who was on parole following a previous felony robbery conviction, was initially charged with felony intentional child abuse causing serious bodily injury. After Holloway’s death, the charge was escalated to murder.
