Newark Police Hunt for Armed Robbers in White Civic

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is seeking public assistance in identifying suspects involved in two armed robberies that occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 1, 2024.

The first incident took place around 4:10 a.m. in the 100 block of Walnut Street. A pedestrian was accosted by four male suspects who emerged from a white, 4-door 2020 Honda Civic with tinted windows. The assailants, armed with a knife, demanded the victim’s belongings, including a cell phone, wallet, and car keys, before fleeing the scene in their vehicle, driven by a fifth suspect.

Shortly after, a second knife-point robbery was reported in the 300 block of Walnut Street, believed to be perpetrated by the same individuals. The Newark Police Department has released descriptions of the four suspects, all identified as African-American males.


  • Suspect 1: Teen, 5’10” tall, dark complexion, wearing a white skull cap, black hooded sweatshirt, and gray pants.
  • Suspect 2: 5’7” tall, thin build, medium brown complexion, wearing gray pants, a hooded sweatshirt, a vest, sneakers, and a ski mask.
  • Suspect 3: 6-ft tall, light complexion, thin build, dressed in all-black and a ski mask.
  • Suspect 4: 6-ft tall, heavyset, dark complexion, wearing dark-colored clothing.

The driver of the suspect vehicle has not been described. Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé urges anyone with information to come forward to assist in the identification and apprehension of these individuals.
