Boil Water Advisory Issued in Atlantic City Due to High Turbidity Levels

Erica Schmidt

ATLANTIC CITY – The Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority (ACMUA) has issued a drinking water warning for residents due to high turbidity levels detected in the water supply. A sample taken on January 5, 2024, revealed turbidity levels of 2.5 nephelometric turbidity units at the Individual Filter Effluent, surpassing the standard of 1 nephelometric turbidity unit.

Due to these elevated turbidity levels, there is an increased risk that the water may contain organisms causing diseases. The Combined Filter Effluent was not operational at the time of this exceedance.

Residents are advised to:

  • Boil water before using it. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and then let it cool before using. Alternatively, use bottled water.
  • Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food until further notice.
  • Be aware that boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Residents are urged to follow these precautions to ensure their health and safety.
