Wind Restrictions Imposed on Thomas Johnson Bridge in Maryland

MARYLAND – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) announces restrictions on the Thomas Johnson Bridge due to sustained winds exceeding 40 mph. The current restrictions include a ban on house trailers, empty box trucks, empty tractor-trailers, and empty oversized vehicles from crossing the bridge. Additionally, the speed limit on the bridge has been reduced to 40 mph while these wind restrictions remain in effect.

SHA notes that further restrictions may be imposed if sustained winds surpass 50 mph. Road conditions on and around the bridge are being closely monitored, and the restrictions will be lifted once it is deemed safe for normal vehicular travel.

Drivers are advised to stay updated on the latest road conditions by visiting SHA’s website at www.roads.maryland.gov and selecting “CHART.” For real-time traffic and weather information, travelers can call 5-1-1 from a landline or a hands-free mobile device, or log onto www.MD511.org. Maryland’s 511 service also offers free text and email alerts for frequently traveled routes through 511Direct, available upon registration and setting route preferences online.
