WINSTON-SALEM, NC — In a swift action that averted a potential child abduction, Winston-Salem police arrested Corey Jamaal Conrad Jr., 23, following an incident near a school bus stop. The attempted kidnapping occurred shortly before 5 p.m. last Friday on a residential street within the Winston-Salem Forsyth School District.

Conrad Jr. allegedly tried to snatch a child by the arm as they disembarked from a school bus. His attempt was foiled when another adult at the scene, who knew the student, intervened. Conrad Jr. reportedly fled the scene after being confronted.

Police were alerted to the attempted abduction on Friday. The following day, they received a tip about Conrad Jr.’s location. He was apprehended at his residence and is currently held in Forsyth County Jail on a $100,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

The school district, closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, has not issued a comment. The incident has raised concerns among local residents about child safety in the area.
