Spring Lake, NJ – In the early hours of February 5, 2024, a Ford Pickup truck driven by Julian Uribe Munoz, 39, of Spring Lake, crashed through the boardwalk after veering off the roadway on Ocean Avenue. The Spring Lake Police Department reported the incident occurred at 12:18 AM, with the vehicle significantly damaging the structure before becoming lodged on the edge of the boardwalk.

Upon arrival, officers found Munoz at the scene, and he was subsequently transported to a local hospital by the Spring Lake First Aid for medical evaluation. Thankfully, no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the mishap.

After an investigation, Munoz faced charges including Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Driving While Suspended, being an Unlicensed Driver, among other related traffic offenses. He was processed and released under John’s Law. Additionally, Marvin Cruz-Palma, 28, of Passaic, NJ, identified as the truck’s owner, was charged with allowing a suspended driver to operate a motor vehicle and failing to equip the vehicle with a required interlock device.


The Spring Lake Department of Public Works is currently assessing the extent of the boardwalk damage for necessary repairs. Patrolman Joseph Liddy is overseeing the arrest and ongoing investigation related to this incident.
