Utica, NY – A shots fired call on February 5, at around 5:00 p.m. led to a high-speed pursuit and the eventual arrest of six individuals by the Utica Police Department. Officers were initially dispatched to the intersection of Mortimer St. and Neilson St. after receiving reports of gunfire. Information received en route to the scene indicated a black Dodge Charger fleeing the area.
Police located the suspect vehicle a few blocks away, but the driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit that ended on Elm St and Elmwood Pl. One suspect fled on foot but was captured near Oneida St. The vehicle was found stopped on Oneida St near James St, displaying bullet holes and containing spent shell casings.
During the investigation, attention was drawn to another vehicle where several juveniles, known to the police from recent gun violence incidents, were detained. Among them, a male with an outstanding warrant was found in possession of a loaded .40 caliber ghost gun. Another juvenile resisted arrest but was taken into custody with an extended handgun magazine found on him.
Further searches revealed a second loaded .40 caliber ghost gun on a 15-year-old, previously arrested in January 2024 for a similar offense. Another male resisted arrest and caused damage to police vehicles, also making threats against the officers.
Investigations extended to retracing the pursuit’s path, leading to the discovery of a loaded .32 caliber handgun on the roof of a former grocery store. The operation concluded with the seizure of four loaded handguns.
