Fatal Collision with Parked Tow Truck Claims Life in Wilmington

Wilmington, DE – A tragic incident occurred in north Wilmington, resulting in the death of a local woman. Delaware State Police are currently investigating the accident that took place late last night.

The event unfolded on February 10, at around 10:38 PM, when a Kia Optima, headed south on Governor Printz Boulevard, failed to navigate a curve near Lore Avenue properly. The car, while moving southwest, strayed off the road onto the right shoulder, where it crashed into an unoccupied Ford F-650 flatbed tow truck parked by the roadside. The impact was such that the Kia ended up wedged beneath the tow truck, pushing it into the gated entrance of Ellmore Auto Collision.

The driver of the Kia, a 30-year-old woman from Wilmington, was discovered not wearing her seatbelt at the moment of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have decided to withhold the victim’s identity pending notification of her family.

The aftermath of the crash led to the closure of the southbound lanes of Governor Printz Boulevard for approximately four hours. The northbound lanes saw closures lasting about an hour to allow for an investigation of the scene and the clearing of the wreckage.
