Gunfire Erupts As Crowd Turns Rowdy At Temple University

Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia police are conducting an investigation following an incident where gunshots were fired near the Temple University campus on Saturday. The disturbance took place at the intersection of Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Responding officers were met with a scene of chaos, encountering approximately 500 juveniles congregated at the location. Efforts to disperse the crowd were initially met with resistance, as the group refused to vacate the area despite police instructions.

The situation escalated around 6 p.m. when several gunshots were heard within the crowd, prompting immediate action from law enforcement and concern for public safety. In response to the volatile situation, university officials issued a warning to students and the community via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, advising them to exercise caution and avoid the affected area.


The police are currently working to identify those responsible for the gunfire and to understand the events leading up to the incident
