Brooklyn, NY – A 59-year-old math teacher has been arraigned on charges of abusing two students at Intermediate School 218.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the arraignment of Gary Simon, a teacher accused of sexually abusing two students in his classroom. Gonzalez highlighted the grave betrayal of trust this case represents and affirmed a zero-tolerance policy for such abuse in educational settings.

Simon, of Flushing, Queens, faces charges including first- and second-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching, and endangering the welfare of a child, with bail set at $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.


The abuse allegations span from November 15 to December 15, 2023, involving inappropriate physical contact with a 13-year-old and a 12-year-old student. The incidents, detailed by the investigation, include derogatory comments followed by physical assaults. The victims reported the abuse to school personnel, leading to Simon’s arrest on December 28, 2023. The prosecution is led by Senior Assistant District Attorney Tatiana Benjamin of the Special Victims Bureau, supervised by Bureau Chief Assistant District Attorney Miss Gregory.
