PERTH AMBOY, NJ – A fire broke out early Saturday morning at a residence in Perth Amboy, leading to the displacement of a family and injuries to three occupants. The Perth Amboy Fire Department (PAFD) was called to the scene at 404 Washington Street at approximately 5:40 am, where they encountered heavy fire conditions emanating from the first floor of the two-story single-family home. A second alarm was quickly transmitted as units arrived within two minutes of the dispatch.

Before the fire department’s arrival, three occupants were forced to jump from the second floor to escape the blaze, fortunately sustaining only non-life-threatening injuries. They were treated on the scene and transported to the local medical center by HMH JFK EMS. Firefighters deployed three hoselines and conducted thorough searches, working for several hours to extinguish the fire that had spread throughout the entire structure, including many void spaces.

Thanks to working smoke alarms, the family was alerted to the fire on the floor below in time to evacuate safely. The fire was successfully contained to the building of origin, but the structure was deemed uninhabitable. The displaced family is being assisted by the city’s relocation services and the Red Cross.
