DELAWARE – The Delaware State Police have apprehended 41-year-old Lee Books following a police chase that led to his 5th offense DUI charge along with gun and drug-related offenses. The incident occurred late last night in Sussex County.

The pursuit began around 12:10 a.m. when a trooper noticed a black Ford Explorer swerving off John J. Williams Highway near Banks Road. The vehicle, driven by Books, failed to halt for a traffic stop, leading to a chase from Millsboro to Bridgeville. During the pursuit, Books ran a red light and a stop sign, among other traffic infractions. The police used tire deflation devices to halt the vehicle on South Main Street in Bridgeville, where Books and a female passenger were detained.

A subsequent search uncovered a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun with a shortened barrel, brass knuckles, a large knife, a woman’s wallet containing drug paraphernalia, approximately 56.57 grams of GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyrate), and additional paraphernalia. The female passenger faced misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charges and was released. Books was taken to Troop 7 for processing on his charges, marking a significant arrest due to his history of DUI offenses and the dangerous combination of firearms and drugs found in his possession.
