BAY COUNTY, FL – A Fountain man has been arrested by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) following an attempted sexual battery on a disabled adult. The arrest occurred after the BCSO received a report from a concerned family member on February 20, 2024.

Steven Babcock, 31, of Ross Road in Fountain, was taken into custody after an investigation into his actions towards a disabled adult living in the care of a family member. The incident reportedly unfolded after Babcock, who lived near the victim’s family, was invited to their home following a chance encounter at a grocery store. Despite the family member’s limited acquaintance with Babcock, he was allowed to visit.

While at the home, and after the family member had left, Babcock attempted the sexual battery. The family member and a roommate, who was asleep at the time, were also in the residence but unaware of the incident until later. Following the report, deputies and investigators quickly located Babcock walking along a nearby street. During an interview, Babcock admitted to the attempted sexual battery.

Babcock has been charged with Felony Battery and Attempted Sexual Battery on a Disabled Adult. He is currently held at the Bay County Jail. The BCSO’s swift response underscores their commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the community and ensuring justice is served.
