New Jersey Businessman Admits Bribery in Connection with Senator Menendez Investigation

NEWARK, NJ – Jose Uribe, a New Jersey businessman, confessed in a Manhattan federal court to participating in a bribery scheme involving Senator Robert Menendez. Uribe disclosed that after receiving a subpoena, he was contacted by Nadine Menendez, the senator’s wife, to align their stories regarding a Mercedes-Benz convertible bribe.

They convened at a Marriott Hotel where discussions about maintaining a consistent narrative on the car payments were held.

Uribe has pleaded guilty to seven charges, including conspiracy to commit bribery and obstruction of justice, among others. His plea agreement with the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York mandates full cooperation with the ongoing investigation into a bribery scheme implicating Senator Menendez and others. The scheme reportedly involved exchanging luxury items and money for political favors.

Senator Menendez, a Democrat from New Jersey, alongside his wife and two other businessmen, maintain their innocence against allegations of accepting bribes for political influence. Menendez’s attorney, Adam Fee, asserts the senator’s innocence, emphasizing their anticipation to present their case in the upcoming May trial.

The charges against Uribe detailed his provision of a luxury vehicle to Ms. Menendez as a bribe for the senator’s interference in an insurance fraud investigation. Uribe expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging the impropriety of exchanging gifts for political favors.

The investigation into this extensive bribery network continues, with the Menendez couple and their co-accused awaiting trial. The case has drawn attention to the senator’s influence and the alleged misuse of his position for personal gain.
