15-Year-Old Arrested for the Murder of Rideshare Driver in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC — A significant breakthrough has occurred in the investigation of a rideshare driver’s murder in Northeast Washington, thanks to the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch. In July 2023, Nasrat Ahmad Yar, a 31-year-old from Alexandria, VA, was found shot inside a vehicle and later pronounced dead despite extensive life-saving attempts.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of July 3, 2023, led to an extensive investigation. On March 1, officers from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended a 15-year-old male from Northeast, D.C., based on a DC Superior Court custody order.

The juvenile has been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed, marking a pivotal moment in the case and providing a semblance of justice for the victim’s family and community.
