Bicyclist Dead in Crash with Box Truck in Lewes

LEWES, DE – A tragic accident early this morning in Lewes resulted in the death of a bicyclist after a collision with a box truck. The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the incident.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:57 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, when a 2020 Isuzu 6-wheel box truck, heading eastbound on John J. Williams Highway, struck a bicyclist who had entered the eastbound lane just west of Mulberry Knoll Road. The circumstances leading to the collision are still under review.

The victim, a 58-year-old woman from Lewes, was pronounced dead at the scene. Efforts to notify her family are underway, and her identity is withheld pending notification. The box truck’s driver, a 60-year-old man from Salisbury, Maryland, was unharmed in the incident, having been properly restrained at the time.


Following the crash, the affected section of the highway was closed for about two and a half hours for investigation and cleanup.
