Jackson Township Walgreens is Closing Soon, Here’s Why

Phil Stilton

JACKSON, NJ—A Walgreens store in Jackson is scheduled to close its doors on April 3. This closure is part of a broader trend in the pharmacy sector, with other major chains such as Rite-Aid and CVS also announcing significant reductions in their number of outlets.

Walgreens has announced it will shut down 150 locations in 2024, and the South Hope Chapel location in Jackson, New Jersey, is one of them.

Rite-Aid has disclosed plans to shut down 200 stores, while CVS intends to close 900 locations by the end of this year.

The widespread closures are attributed to industry overexpansion. In previous decades, these pharmacy chains rapidly increased their presence, contributing to the decline of nearly 50% of all independent, family-owned pharmacies from 1980 to 2022.

The company told customers this week that all prescriptions will be available at the Walgreens on Harmony Road
