Asbury Park Man Arrested with Stolen Firearm in Wall Township

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of 20-year-old Corey E. Thermitus of Asbury Park for possession of a stolen handgun among other charges. The incident occurred on Route 35 on March 8, when Wall Township Police Department’s Quality of Life Unit stopped Thermitus who was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

The subsequent investigation revealed Thermitus was in possession of a Taurus 9mm handgun, which was defaced, stolen, and accompanied by hollow point ammunition and a high-capacity magazine. Charges against him also include possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm while committing a drug offense.

Thermitus is currently held at Monmouth County Correctional Facility pending his court appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court. The arrest was made by Sergeant Michael Tancredi, Detective Thomas Gavaghan, and Patrolman Ken Bala.
