BROOKLYN, NY — In a recent development, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the indictment of a Manhattan woman, Crystal DeJesus, on charges of vehicular assault. The indictment stems from an incident in November when DeJesus, allegedly driving under the influence, struck a pedestrian and a cyclist in Bedford-Stuyvesant with her BMW.

The incident, which occurred near the intersection of Halsey Street and Tompkins Avenue, resulted in severe injuries for the victims. A 19-year-old woman sustained massive head trauma, and a 32-year-old man suffered multiple injuries, including to his leg and shoulder. Upon arrival, police noted DeJesus exhibited signs of intoxication, and a subsequent breathalyzer test revealed her blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

DeJesus faces charges including two counts of second-degree vehicular assault, excessive speed, operating a vehicle under the influence, second-degree reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

She has been arraigned before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Herbert J. Moses and is scheduled to return to court on April 24. District Attorney Gonzalez emphasized his office’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Brooklyn’s streets and holding those responsible for endangering them accountable.
