Arrest Made in Connection with Mountain Lakes Bank Robbery

MOUNTAIN LAKES, NJ—A collaborative effort between local and federal law enforcement has led to the arrest of Tony Winst in connection with a bank robbery in Mountain Lakes. Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, alongside Chief of Detectives Robert McNally and Mountain Lakes Police Chief Shawn Bennett, announced the development.

The robbery occurred on November 17, 2023, at the PNC Bank on 425 Boulevard. The suspect reportedly demanded money without displaying or threatening the use of a weapon and escaped with around $1,000. Following an extensive investigation, 46-year-old Tony Winst of Cresskill, NJ, was apprehended by federal authorities in New York City on March 9, 2024. Winst is now facing federal charges for his involvement in the robbery. The successful arrest highlights the effective partnership among the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Mountain Lakes Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Unit, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
