Traffic Alert: Route 72 Closures During Bridge Work Project

STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ — Motorists are advised of upcoming travel disruptions on Route 72 due to the Manahawkin Bay Bridges project. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced lane closures in both directions near Marsha Drive, scheduled to begin on the evening of March 15.

Starting at 8 p.m. on Friday and continuing until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Route 72 will be closed to traffic for road restriping and the installation of construction barriers. These adjustments aim to establish a center lane work zone on both sides of Route 72 near Marsha Drive in Stafford, accompanied by overnight paving efforts.

By Saturday morning, traffic will be realigned into a split configuration, maintaining two lanes with a central work zone. This arrangement, designed to facilitate milling and paving operations, is expected to persist for approximately one month.

Travelers heading to Long Beach Island via Route 72 eastbound will have access through both lanes, while those intending to reach Morris Drive must use the right lane. Similarly, both lanes on Route 72 westbound will direct traffic into Manahawkin, with the right lane designated for those turning onto Marsha Drive.
