Teen charged as adult in Carroll Island Road shooting incident

MIDDLE RIVER, MD — A 16-year-old suspect has been taken into custody and will face adult charges following a shooting incident involving a group of juveniles Wednesday evening on Carroll Island Road, police said.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Carroll Island Road, ZIP code 21220. Officers responded to reports of shots fired and found that a firearm had been discharged during a physical altercation involving several juveniles inside a residence.

Detectives from Precinct 11-Essex determined that the teen suspect discharged the weapon during the altercation. The 16-year-old now faces multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and handgun violations.

Two individuals sustained minor injuries during the incident. One person suffered injuries to the upper body, while the second had a minor injury to the lower extremity. Authorities are still working to determine whether the second injury was the result of a bullet graze or debris.

Officers detained seven juveniles at the scene, ranging in age from 11 to 15. Police said the investigation is ongoing and efforts continue to identify any additional individuals involved.
