NEWARK, Del. – A 23-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Newark, Delaware State Police said.

The crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Sunset Lake Road (SR-72), just south of Reybold Road. Authorities said a blue 2004 Honda Accord was traveling northbound at an apparent high rate of speed when it veered off the right side of the road. The car struck a ditch and then collided with several trees.

The driver, a Newark resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released as police work to notify his family.

Investigators closed the roadway for approximately 4.5 hours while they examined the scene and cleared the wreckage.
