Maryland State Police say a 29-year-old man fled before being arrested
SALISBURY, MD – A verbal argument inside a Salisbury home ended in gunfire Thursday night, leaving 29-year-old Jordan Holt dead and another 29-year-old facing murder charges after Maryland State Police say he fled the residence and was captured shortly afterward.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack were called shortly after 8 p.m. to a residence in the 400 block of Ethels Way for a reported shooting.
Inside, troopers found Holt, of Salisbury, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
State Police identified the accused as Gage Mitchell, 29, also of Salisbury.
A preliminary investigation indicates Holt and Mitchell became involved in a verbal altercation inside the residence before Mitchell allegedly shot Holt, police said.
Mitchell then fled the home, according to investigators. Troopers located him a short time later and arrested him without incident.
Crime Scene Technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division processed the scene, and investigators recovered a firearm.
Following consultation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mitchell was charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and additional firearm-related offenses.
He was being held without bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the ongoing investigation. The State Police Aviation Command and Criminal Enforcement Division assisted along with the Fruitland Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and Salisbury Police Department.
The charges against Mitchell are allegations and have not been proven in court.
