License plate alert and police helicopter lead officers to stolen vehicle on North Avenue
BALTIMORE, MD – Three 14-year-old boys were caught riding in a vehicle reported stolen in a carjacking Saturday night, with Baltimore Police saying officers stopped the vehicle on North Avenue and recovered a loaded handgun.
The arrests followed a License Plate Reader alert at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of West North Avenue.
The alert notified officers about a vehicle that had been reported carjacked, according to Baltimore Police.
Police requested assistance from Foxtrot, the department’s aviation unit.
The aircraft located the vehicle traveling eastbound on East North Avenue.
Officers subsequently stopped it at the intersection of East North Avenue and Homewood Avenue.
Police said three boys were inside.
All three were 14 years old.
Officers took the juveniles into custody and recovered a loaded handgun, according to the department.
Baltimore Police did not specify where inside the vehicle the firearm was found or allege in the announcement that any particular juvenile possessed it.
Police also did not provide information concerning when or where the original carjacking occurred.
