$5 ticket turns into $50K payday for local mechanic

MT. AIRY, MD — A Montgomery County mechanic has claimed a $50,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s Let’s Make a Deal® scratch-off game, marking his biggest lottery win after nearly a decade of playing.

The anonymous winner purchased several tickets with a friend and was shocked to uncover the top prize. Unsure at first, he scanned the ticket multiple times using the Maryland Lottery mobile app and confirmed the win at various retail locations before coming forward.

He has long enjoyed playing scratch-offs with coworkers and family, though his previous wins had never exceeded a few hundred dollars. Despite the size of the win, he chose not to reveal the full prize amount to loved ones.

The winning ticket was sold at the Shell station located at 649 Lave View Drive in Mt. Airy. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.

Let’s Make a Deal is a $5 scratch-off game that still has five $50,000 top prizes remaining. The game also features a second-chance promotion through My Lottery Rewards, offering trips and cash prizes through September 8.
