Troopers find two shooting victims during 2 a.m. response in Dorchester County
CAMBRIDGE, MD – A 5-year-old girl was killed and a 30-year-old man was flown to a trauma center after gunfire erupted at a Dorchester County residence early Tuesday, launching a Maryland State Police homicide investigation before daybreak.
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack were dispatched at approximately 2:17 a.m. to a residence in the 3900 block of Ocean Gateway following a report of a shooting.
When troopers arrived, they found two people suffering from suspected gunshot wounds, according to Maryland State Police.
One victim was a 5-year-old girl.
State police confirmed that the child died but did not release her name in the initial announcement.
The second victim was identified only as a 30-year-old man.
Maryland State Police Aviation Command flew him to a local trauma center for treatment.
Police did not disclose the extent of the man’s injuries or provide an update concerning his condition.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the residence and took over the investigation.
Crime Scene Technicians from the agency’s Forensic Sciences Division also processed the scene for evidence.
State police have not announced an arrest or released information concerning a possible suspect.
Investigators also have not disclosed what may have led to the shooting, the relationship between the two victims or whether anyone else was inside the residence when the gunfire occurred.
The investigation remained active Tuesday.
