Dundalk Walmart sells life-changing $500K Lottery winner

A Baltimore County couple’s stop for groceries turned into a $500,000 Maryland Lottery win after they followed a strategy of buying a game with top prizes still available.

DUNDALK, MD — A Dundalk couple says a Maryland Lottery Scratch-Off ticket has transformed their retirement plans after they uncovered a $500,000 top prize while putting away groceries at home.

The couple claimed the prize on Wednesday, July 15, after winning on the Maryland Lottery’s Gifts of Green Scratch-Off game.

According to the Maryland Lottery, the winning ticket was purchased at the Walmart located at 2399 North Point Boulevard in Dundalk.

The couple, who both work at a Maryland college and are approaching retirement, said they regularly play Scratch-Off tickets together.

Before the purchase, the husband checked the Maryland Lottery website to see which games still had top prizes remaining. He noticed Gifts of Green still had several top prizes available and asked his wife to buy two tickets while she was at the store.

After returning home and putting away the groceries, the couple scratched their tickets together.

The wife said she immediately noticed the game’s winning symbol alongside the $500,000 prize and double-checked the rules before realizing they had won the game’s top prize.

The couple said they plan to use the money to purchase a new vehicle and help fund their retirement.

Gifts of Green is a $20 Scratch-Off game that debuted in October 2025 with seven $500,000 top prizes. According to the Maryland Lottery, two top prizes remain unclaimed.

The Walmart that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus.
