NEWARK, DE — A 91-year-old man died Monday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday afternoon in the Newark area, according to Delaware State Police.

The incident happened at approximately 4:31 p.m. on May 10, when a gray 2013 RAM 1500 was heading southbound on Sunset Lake Road, just north of Broadleaf Drive. Preliminary investigations suggest that a brown 2017 Honda Accord, possibly traveling ahead of the RAM in the same direction, attempted a wide U-turn into the northbound lanes.

As the Honda entered the path of the RAM, the two vehicles collided. The driver of the Honda, identified as William Blevins of Newark, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He died from his injuries two days later on May 12. His family has been notified, police said.

The 60-year-old driver of the RAM, a resident of Bear, was not injured in the collision. Authorities have not released his name.

Investigation ongoing into cause of crash

Delaware State Police have not yet determined why the Honda attempted the U-turn or whether any charges are pending. “The preliminary investigation indicates that… the Honda allegedly attempted to make a wide U-turn,” the report stated.

The investigation remains active as troopers work to confirm the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
