Pittsburgh Police Investigate Series of Kia and Hyundai Vehicle Thefts

Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh Police are investigating the theft of at least ten vehicles reported stolen from various neighborhoods throughout the city overnight. The suspects, believed to be juveniles, are targeting specific Kia and Hyundai models known for a security vulnerability.

Officers observed at least four of the stolen vehicles driving erratically and at dangerously high speeds on the North Side. Two of these vehicles were later found crashed and abandoned at Eckert Street and Shadeland Avenue, with the suspects fleeing on foot.

Among the ten vehicles reported stolen, all but one were either Kia or Hyundai models. Detectives are actively working on recovering the stolen vehicles and are reviewing all available video and other evidence to identify possible suspects. There have been no arrests at this time.

Pittsburgh Police offer the following tips to help prevent vehicle theft:

  • Always lock your vehicle and take your keys with you.
  • Use a steering wheel lock as a visible deterrent.
  • Park in well-lit areas whenever possible.
  • Install an anti-theft device if your vehicle does not already have one.
