CUMBERLAND, MD- The Cumberland Police Department announced that a criminal summons was served on Monday to Shakil Rahman, 68, in connection with a motor vehicle crash on Seton Drive on August 27. Rahman was charged at the District Court of Allegany County for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license. The summons was signed and Rahman was released pending trial.

On the same day, the Cumberland Police Department also served a bench warrant on Thomas Smith, 40, for violating his probation. Smith was initially charged with second-degree assault.

Smith was arrested and transported to Central Booking where he was later seen by a District Court Commissioner. The commissioner remanded him to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

Both Rahman and Smith are due for upcoming legal proceedings following their respective charges and arrests. Rahman’s next court date is yet to be announced, while Smith remains detained pending further decisions.
