WESTFIELD, N.J. — Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro announced the arrests of four individuals early Saturday morning following an attempted burglary on the 500 block of Benson Place.
A homeowner contacted 911 at approximately 4:28 a.m. on November 23, reporting two individuals in dark clothing, one wearing a ski mask, attempting to break into his home through a garage window. The attempt triggered the residence’s burglar alarm, prompting the homeowner to review surveillance footage and alert authorities.
Detective Andres Jaramillo, while on patrol, discovered a dark-colored Audi parked nearby on Stevens Avenue. Upon inspection, he found two individuals trying to conceal themselves in the front seats and two others in the rear passenger seat. Further investigation confirmed that the two individuals in the backseat matched the suspects seen on the homeowner’s surveillance footage.
The suspects in the rear seat were identified as 18-year-old Imanni Williams and a 17-year-old male, both from Newark. Burglary tools, gloves, and a ski mask were recovered from the vehicle. Police determined the pair attempted to force open a garage door before using a tool to pry open a window, triggering the alarm.
Williams and the male juvenile face multiple charges, including third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal trespass, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
