10 year old girl dies on new jersey carnival ride

DEERFIELD-A 10-year-old girl is dead after an accident at the annual Deerfield Harvest Festival. Festival operators shut down the rides and cancelled a parade, but the rest of the scheduled activities at the event went on as planned.

The New Jersey State Police is investigating the death of the girl who sustained fatal injuries after she was ejected from an amusement ride. Based on the preliminary investigation, on Saturday, October 12, at 6:18 p.m., the victim was ejected from a ride called “Extreme,” which is a Wisdom Super Sizzler amusement park ride.

As a result, she sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Cooper Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased at 7:20 p.m. The cause and circumstances remain under investigation, and there is no additional information available.

“We are absolutely heartbroken. Words cannot express our feelings and we extend our deepest sympathies to the individual’s family and loved ones. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts,” said Skelly Amusements, the operator of the ride where the girl died. The company is cooperating with the investigation by the State Police.

“There was an accident at the Harvest Festival yesterday. The incident is still under investigation. We have learned from the State Police that the young person involved in the accident has succumbed to her injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family,” festival operators said. “The festival will be open today to offer a place for the community to come together in wake of this tragedy.”
