GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A couple found dead in their Chevy Chase home last week were victims of a murder-suicide, Montgomery County police confirmed Monday following an ongoing investigation by Major Crimes detectives.

Officers and emergency personnel responded around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 8500 block of Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, where they discovered the bodies of Kate Simoni Fralin, 61, and William Scott Fralin, 63, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The two were pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm and ammunition were recovered near the bodies, prompting immediate involvement of homicide investigators.
“The decedents were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy,” police stated in their release.
Autopsy results confirm homicide
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Kate Simoni Fralin died as a result of homicide. While the cause of William Scott Fralin’s death is still pending, detectives are treating it as a suicide based on the evidence at the scene.
Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes unit continues to lead the investigation but has not indicated any threat to the public.
Authorities have not released further details about a possible motive, and no other individuals are believed to be involved.
