The incident began around 2:36 p.m. when Chesapeake Police were notified that a vehicle pursuit had crossed into their jurisdiction from Elizabeth City, N.C. The suspect, who had reportedly struck an Elizabeth City County deputy’s vehicle, entered Virginia, prompting a coordinated response from Chesapeake officers.
As the pursuit escalated, officers from Chesapeake successfully deployed spike strips, but the suspect continued fleeing, eventually entering Interstate 64.
Suspect arrested after hitting three patrol vehicles
Virginia State Police troopers joined the pursuit on I-64. Authorities say the suspect’s vehicle collided with three state police vehicles before coming to a stop near the Indian River Road exit.
The driver was immediately taken into custody. One trooper sustained a non-life-threatening injury during the incident.
