Ocean township to hold 14th annual independence day celebration on june 28 — Fireworks on the background of the dark night sky. 4th July - American Independence Day

WARETOWN, N.J. — The Township of Ocean will host its 14th Annual Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Corliss Park – Lake & Recreation Area Pavilion, located at 182 Wells Mills Road in Waretown.

The event is presented by the Township Committee, including Mayor Ben LoParo, Deputy Mayor Ken Baulderstone, and Committeewoman Lydia Dodd. The program will feature a series of tributes and performances honoring the nation’s history and local veterans.

Scheduled participants include the Barnegat American Legion Post 232 Color Guard, the Greenbriar Glee Club, the Bell Choir from the United Methodist Church, and the Greenbriar Men’s Club presenting the flags. Timothy Hart, Division Director of the Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission, will serve as guest speaker.

Adele Shaw, president and historian of the Waretown Historical Society, will read the names of Civil War veterans buried in the Olde Cemetery on Main Street. Each name will be followed by a ringing of the bell in memory of the fallen.

Attendees are invited to visit the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum to learn more about Waretown’s history. Free hot dogs and refreshments will be available following Taps. Organizers note there is no rain date for the event.
