Delaware State Police investigating shots fired near Claymont Elementary

Police are investiating after a moving vehicle was abandoned following a shooting near a Delaware elementary school.

CLAYMONT, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred late Saturday night near Claymont Elementary School.

Troopers responded to the area of 3401 Green Street at approximately 10:53 p.m. on July 27 after receiving reports of gunfire. Assisted by the New Castle County Police Department, officers searched the area for victims, suspects, or property damage.

During the search, police located an abandoned white Hyundai Sonata on Green Street. The vehicle, which appeared to have been struck by a projectile, was still in drive when found. Witnesses reported seeing several vehicles speed away from the area after the shots were heard. According to police, 3–4 unknown individuals abandoned the Hyundai and fled in different directions.

No injuries or additional property damage have been reported. No suspect information or surveillance footage is currently available.
