Motorcyclist dies after weekend crash with turning vehicle in Newark, Delaware

NEWARK, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday night in Newark and claimed the life of a Maryland man two days later.

The incident happened around 8:00 p.m. on August 23 on Chestnut Hill Road near North Kingston Road, when a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling westbound struck the rear passenger side of a Buick LaCrosse that was turning left onto North Kingston Road.

The rider, identified as 53-year-old Jackie Spicer of Elkton, Maryland, was ejected from the motorcycle and transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He died on August 25 from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Buick, a 44-year-old woman from Newark, was uninjured.

The roadway was closed for about an hour following the crash. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is leading the ongoing investigation.
