Man caught with stolen plates at Stafford Wawa charged with larceny and forgery

STAFFORD, VA — A man displaying stolen license plates on his car was stopped outside a Wawa Tuesday morning and admitted he knew the tags didn’t belong on his vehicle, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

At 11:07 a.m., Deputy M.N. Sayegh spotted a Mazda parked at the Wawa located at 860 Richmond Highway and recognized that the license plates had been reported stolen. With backup from First Sergeant M.R. Flick, the driver was detained for questioning.

During the investigation, the driver reportedly admitted he knew the license plates were registered to a Chevrolet and not the Mazda he was driving. Authorities charged him with larceny and forging a license plate.

The man was brought before a magistrate and released on personal recognizance.

No additional suspects or stolen property were reported in the incident.
