Driver killed after Mustang crashes and catches fire in Milford

Milford, DE – A driver was killed Tuesday night after a Ford Mustang veered off Bay Road and burst into flames following a collision with a tree, according to Delaware State Police.

The crash occurred around 8:35 p.m. just north of Jenkins Pond Road.

Investigators said the car left the east side of the roadway for unknown reasons before striking a tree and catching fire with the driver trapped inside.

The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Road closed for hours during investigation

Bay Road was shut down for several hours Tuesday night as troopers investigated and emergency crews cleared the scene.

Authorities have not said what factors may have led to the crash, and the incident remains under active investigation.

Police seeking information from witnesses
