Best friends from Carroll County win $100K on scratch-off and plan to share with family
MANCHESTER, MD – Two longtime best friends from Carroll County turned a routine Lottery stop into a life-changing moment after one of them scratched off a $100,000 top prize on a Silver Bell Bucks ticket purchased at a local wine and spirits shop.
The $10 scratch-off was bought at Piper’s Wine & Spirit Barn on Hanover Pike, where the duo said they follow a system—one goes in to buy the tickets, and the other does the scratching. That system paid off big this week.
While scratching the Silver Bell Bucks ticket, one of the friends revealed matching numbers—03, 19, and 48—each paired with a $10,000 prize. As she continued scratching, more matching numbers with $10,000 payouts kept appearing until there were ten in total, bringing the win to a full $100,000.
The win, claimed December 3 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, is the biggest the pair has ever seen. Their previous record was a “thousand and something,” they said.
Both friends say they plan to use the winnings to support extended family, including nieces and nephews. The ticket was bought just days after the launch of the Silver Bell Bucks game, which offers a $100,000 top prize. For selling the winning ticket, Piper’s Wine & Spirit Barn will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
Despite the windfall, the two don’t plan to stop playing anytime soon. One said they might even buy a few more tickets on the way home.
