DC woman charged after firing gun during daylight argument on Naylor Road

Washington, DC – A midday dispute on a Southeast DC street escalated into gunfire Tuesday, ending with a woman in custody after police say she fired a shot at another person during a heated argument.

The shooting happened around 12:10 p.m. in the 2500 block of Naylor Road SE. According to investigators, the suspect pulled out a firearm and discharged a single round during the confrontation. The bullet did not strike the victim, who was uninjured in the incident.

On Wednesday, police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Shelby Walker, a resident of Southeast D.C. She was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Carrying a Pistol Without a License.

The incident occurred in broad daylight in a busy area, though no other injuries or property damage were reported. Police have not said what led to the argument or how the individuals involved knew each other.

Walker is expected to appear in court for an initial hearing this week.
