Allentown man arrested after setting fire during mental health crisis
ALLENTOWN, PA – A tense situation unfolded Friday afternoon when a man allegedly set fire to his own home during a mental health crisis, prompting a dramatic rescue by police and fire personnel in the 700 block of South 10th Street.
Officers responded around 1:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a house fire with an individual possibly armed inside. The Allentown Police Department and Allentown Fire Department entered the burning residence and safely removed the occupant. Two officers and the man were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. All are reportedly recovering.
Authorities later charged Julio Rodriguez, 51, with arson, recklessly endangering another person, and disorderly conduct. Investigators have not released further details.
