GALENA, Md. – Authorities are investigating an explosive device that detonated inside a residential mailbox Saturday night in Kent County, causing minor property damage but no injuries, according to officials.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 13700 block of Gregg Neck Road. The device was placed inside the mailbox belonging to Cheryl Plummer and intentionally detonated, damaging the box and its post. The estimated loss was reported at $80.
Deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after the homeowner discovered the damage. No fire alarms were triggered, and no residents were displaced.
Investigators have classified the cause as incendiary and are working to identify suspects. No arrests have been made.
