RALEIGH, N.C. – Spring & Mulberry has expanded its voluntary recall of select chocolate bars to include multiple flavors after additional testing revealed possible Salmonella contamination, the company announced this week.
The updated recall, issued January 14 and published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on January 15, extends beyond the previously recalled Mint Leaf bars to include eight other varieties of Spring & Mulberry chocolate products. The company said the expanded action was taken out of an abundance of caution following third-party testing that detected Salmonella in products produced on the same equipment during the same period.
The affected chocolate bars were sold online and through select retailers nationwide beginning September 15, 2025. The recalled items can be identified by flavor, lot number, and packaging color, listed as follows:
- Earl Grey – Lot #025258 – Purple box
- Lavender Rose – Lots #025259, #025260 – Light blue box
- Mango Chili – Lot #025283 – Orange box
- Mint Leaf – Lot #025255 – Teal box
- Mixed Berry – Lots #025275, #025281, #025337 – Purple box
- Mulberry Fennel – Lot #025345 – Burgundy box
- Pecan Date – Lots #025261, #025265, #025267, #025268, #025339, #025343 – Yellow box
- Pure Dark Minis – Lot #025273 – Blue box
The company said no illnesses or adverse health effects have been reported to date. However, consumers who purchased the recalled chocolate are urged not to eat the products and to dispose of them immediately.
Salmonella infection can cause serious and sometimes fatal illness, particularly among young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more severe conditions such as endocarditis or arthritis.
Spring & Mulberry said the recall was initiated in consultation with the FDA and that production on the affected equipment has been suspended pending further investigation.
