Maryland player hits huge lottery windfall just weeks before game retirement

North Bethesda lottery player wins $1,000 a week for life in Cash4Life game

North Bethesda, MD — One lucky Maryland Lottery player just secured a lifetime payday after purchasing a winning Cash4Life ticket worth $1,000 a week for life at a Montgomery County convenience store.

The second-tier prizewinning ticket for the January 27 drawing was sold at Meridian Market and Wine, located at 5230 Tuckerman Lane in North Bethesda. The winner matched all five white balls — 15, 26, 32, 44, and 59 — missing only the Cash Ball, which was 1.

The player, who bought the ticket on January 26, now has a choice between receiving $1,000 every week for life (paid as $52,000 annually) or a one-time lump sum of $1 million before taxes. The ticket must be claimed within 182 days of the drawing date, and prizes over $25,000 require an in-person appointment at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Cash4Life, a $2 multi-state daily draw game offered in 10 states, has been available in Maryland since January 2016. The game offers a top prize of $1,000 a day for life and a second-tier prize of $1,000 a week for life.

Lottery officials confirmed that the Cash4Life game is being retired after the February 21 drawing. It will be merged into a new game that Maryland will not participate in.
