Thieves in ski masks pull gun on man and steal car outside Wilmington shopping center
Wilmington, DE – A quiet night turned violent in a Wilmington shopping center Wednesday when two armed masked teens confronted a man sitting in his car, forced him out at gunpoint, robbed him, and drove off in his vehicle, according to state police.
It happened just after 8:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Maryland Avenue, where a man sitting inside his Toyota Corolla was ambushed by two suspects wearing ski masks. The duo ordered the victim out of the car and made him lie on the ground. One of them then took cash from him before both fled the scene in the stolen Toyota. The man was not injured.
Roughly an hour later, troopers located the stolen car near East 27th Street and Rosemont Avenue. But before officers could make contact, the two suspects bolted from the vehicle on foot, leaving it behind.
Police said both suspects were described as slim males between 16 and 20 years old, wearing dark clothing and ski masks.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate. Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward via phone, Facebook, or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
No arrests have been made as of Thursday, and the identities of the suspects remain unknown.
Investigators are also reminding the public that support services are available 24/7 through the Delaware State Police Victim Services Unit.
