South Carolina man scores $150K Ohio lottery hit on Monopoly scratch-off
Ashtabula, OH – A routine stop for a scratch-off turned into a six-figure surprise for a South Carolina man working in northeast Ohio, proving that a work trip can sometimes come with unexpected luck.
Gerardo, who lives in Gaston, North Carolina and works in Ashtabula, won $150,000 playing the $20 Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 100X scratch-off, according to the Ohio Lottery. The winning ticket was purchased at Village Food Mart, located at 6314 South Main Street in North Kingsville, a store he visits regularly to buy lottery tickets.
The winner said he never expected to land a prize of this size. After mandatory state and federal tax withholdings totaling 26.75 percent, Gerardo will receive $109,875.
He told lottery officials he plans to use part of the winnings to focus on his health, including purchasing exercise equipment, while investing and saving the remainder.
Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 100X offers players a chance to win up to $1 million. As of Tuesday, one top prize of $40,000 a year for 25 years and one second-tier prize remain unclaimed. Overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.48.
The Ohio Lottery reported it has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
