Police say SWAT officers arrested suspect in killing that left one man dead on Brandy Drive

COLUMBUS, OH — A homicide investigation into the fatal shooting of a man on Columbus’ east side has led to the arrest of a suspect after SWAT officers took him into custody without incident.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers responded at approximately 11:42 p.m. on July 13 to the 2700 block of Brandy Drive for a reported shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Aubra L. Groom suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Groom was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Following an extensive investigation, Columbus Police Homicide Detectives identified Rickey Harmon as the suspect in the killing and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Members of the Columbus Police SWAT unit later located Harmon and arrested him without incident.

Police did not release additional details regarding the circumstances of the shooting or the charges filed against Harmon.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The allegations against Harmon have not been proven in court, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
